Super Eagles duo Ndidi and Iheanacho nominated for Leicester City Goal of the Month
Published: September 15, 2023
Strikes from Nigeria national teamers Wilfred Ndidi and Kelechi Iheanacho have been included in the shortlist for Leicester City's Goal of the Month award for August 2023.
The Foxes have selected the top eight goals across all levels, with the Nigerian national teamers making the cut.
While Ndidi has been nominated for his effort against Burton Albion in the first round of the League Cup, Iheanacho's opener against the same opponents on August 9 is in contention to receive the monthly award.
Six minutes into the contest at the Pirelli Stadium, Iheanacho opened his account for the season with a cheeky backheel flick from Marc Albrighton's cross.
And in first half stoppage time, the 2013 Fifa U17 World Cup Golden Ball winner turned from scorer to provider when he beat the offside trap and teed up Ndidi, who slotted home with a first time finish.
To win the award, the Nigerian duo have to see off competition from Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, Stephy Mavididi, Amani Richards, Zach Booth, Wanya Marçal and Kasey McAteer.
Ndidi and Iheanacho's performance against São Tomé and Príncipe will be fresh in the minds of Super Eagles fans with the two players providing the assist for Nigeria's second and third goal in a 6-0 win.
They were linked with departures from the King Power Stadium in the summer transfer windo but are set to stay put at the club until at least January 2024.
