Terem Moffi or Victor Boniface: Who should partner Osimhen in attack against Saudi Arabia?
Published: October 13, 2023
The Super Eagles are set to face Saudi Arabia for the first time since 2010 in an international friendly on Friday evening.
José Peseiro will be seeking to record his first victory in a friendly game since becoming Nigeria's head coach last year in the encounter.
The Portuguese tactician likes to play with two strikers in his preferred 4-4-2 formation with Victor Osimhen certain to occupy one of the striking positions
This does beg the question of who to partner the 2023 AFCON qualifiers top scorer in attack between Umar Sadiq, Terem Moffi and Victor Boniface.
Moffi and Boniface are higher in ranking than Sadiq who was only invited due to the injury picked up by Nottingham Forest forward, Taiwo Awoniyi.
Thus, if Peseiro is to stick with his 4-4-2 formation against Saudi Arabia, it is either the Bayer Leverkusen forward or the Nice striker who will partner Osimhen in the attack.
The last time the Nice striker featured for Nigeria was in the 1-0 loss to Guinea Bissau and he was poor on the day.
In contrast, Boniface's last appearance was in the 6-0 demolition of Sao Tome and Principe which was also his debut for Super Eagles, he came on in the second half and bagged an assist in that encounter.
When you also add the fact that the August Bundesliga Player of the Month has more goals this term than the September Ligue 1 Player of the Month nominee, it is safe to say that Boniface is in better form than Moffi.
Additionally, Moffi has featured in 10 games under Peseiro which means he has had enough time to make an impression while Boniface has played just 26 minutes, it will only be fair to give the latter the chance more game time and see what he can do.
Therefore, if Peseiro is to continue with his preferred two-man attack against Saudi Arabia, it is the Bayer Leverkusen ace that should partner Osimhen in the attack.
