Super Eagles team news: Iwobi, Ndidi, Osimhen named in starting XI; full debut for Bayer Leverkusen hotshot
Published: October 13, 2023
Allnigeriasoccer.com understands that Super Eagles manager Jose Peseiro has announced his starting lineup for Friday evening's international friendly against Saudi Arabia at the Estádio Municipal de Portimão.
Omonia Nicosia goalkeeper Francis Uzoho has been picked to start over Udinese's Maduka Okoye who was drafted into the team this week due to uncertainty surrounding the availability of Israeli-based Adebayo Adeleye.
Calvin Bassey is partnered in the centre of defence by fit again West Brom star Semi Ajayi.
The injury suffered by Zaidu Sanusi and Jamilu Collins pulling out of the squad presented a chance for Bruno Onyemaechi to start at left-back, while Tyronne Ebuehi has been deployed at right-back.
Peseiro has given two English-based players in Leicester City's Wilfred Ndidi and Fulham's Alex Iwobi the nod in the centre of the park, with the duo starting in midfield alongside Ademola Lookman and Samuel Chukwueze.
The front two unarguably picks itself on current form with Napoli star Victor Osimhen partnered by Bayer Leverkusen's Victor Boniface.
Boniface is set to make his starting debut for the three-time African champions after coming off the bench against São Tomé and Príncipe in September.
Super Eagles starting lineup: Uzoho; Ebuehi, Ajayi, Bassey, Onyemaechi; Ndidi, Iwobi, Lookman, Chukwueze; Boniface, Osimhen.
