ANS exclusive confirmed: Leicester City boss reveals Ndidi is out until after the international beak
Published: November 02, 2023
Leicester City manager Enzo Maresca has confirmed an exclusive story reported by allnigeriasoccer.com four days ago about the unavailability of Wilfred Ndidi for the Super Eagles' upcoming World Cup qualifying matches against Lesotho and Zimbabwe.
This website exclusively reported that the defensive midfielder has withdrawn from the back-to-back World Cup qualifiers ahead of the squad announcement by the Nigeria Football Federation, on the advice of Leicester City's medical team.
Maresca has confirmed that Ndid will be out of action until after the international break in November.
The 26-year-old has already missed games in the Championship against Sunderland and Queens Park Rangers and will sit out the Foxes' upcoming matches against Leeds United (Nov 3) and Middlesbrough (Nov 11).
Nigeria have an injury crisis heading into the 2026 World Cup qualifiers, with Napoli striker Victor Osimhen and Porto defender Zaidu Sanusi not in contention to be called up for both games due to injuries while AC Milan winger Samuel Chukwueze is in a race against time to be fit following a hamstring injury he suffered while on international duty last month.
Providing an update on his squad before the visit of Leeds United to the King Power Stadium on Friday, Maresca was quoted as saying by Leicester City's official website: "Wilf will be out until the international break. It is also a muscular problem. It’s a small thing but when the problem is muscular, even if it’s small, it’s always one week or two weeks because we don’t want to take any risks."
Super Eagles manager Jose Peseiro is sweating on the fitness of Boavista left-back Bruno Onyemaechi and West Brom central defender Semi Ajayi two weeks before the meeting with Lesotho at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo.
