Super Eagles CB Awaziem sends message to Akwa Ibom State Government on playing surface in Uyo
Published: November 15, 2023
Boavista centre-back Chidozie Awaziem was on media duties shortly after the Super Eagles first training session on grass at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in preparation for the 2026 World Cup qualifying match against Lesotho.
Awaziem has echoed the words of Kenneth Omeruo, Alex Iwobi, Jamilu Collins and Raphael Onyedika, saying the Super Eagles want to be in the World Cup after missing out on the 2022 tournament in Qatar.
The 26-year-old has not played much for the Super Eagles since Jose Peseiro took over the managerial position, making only three appearances from a possible twelve.
Awaziem is a player well known by Peseiro as they spent time together at Porto and it was the current Nigeria boss that handed him his senior debut at the Portuguese giants.
"It was actually a wonderful training session today (Tuesday), we are all preparing for the first qualification game for the World Cup," Awaziem said.
"We all want to go to the World Cup, this is our dream and we know Nigerians want to see the Super Eagles in the World Cup.
"We also want to be there, we are working hard to make sure we get all the points in these games and focus more on the next round. Right now all the boys are very prepared and we are ready to fight."
Awaziem has thanked the Akwa Ibom State Government for maintaining the playing surface at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo.
When asked to comment on the state of the pitch, he said: "Actually the pitch is really looking nice. The Akwa Ibom Stadium (Uyo), they all did well on the pitch. I am giving a big kudos to them for the way they maintained the pitch, it's really looking nice."
Awaziem was in the Super Eagles squad to the 2018 World Cup but remained rooted to the bench for their group games against Croatia, Iceland and Argentina.
