'Good boy, intelligent, adapts quickly' - Former Montpellier star Utaka hails ex-Nigeria U20 international Adams
Published: November 24, 2023
Former Montpellier striker John Utaka is not surprised by ex-Nigeria U20 international Akor Adams' fast start to life in the French Ligue 1.
The 23-year-old grabbed the attention of several clubs across Europe in the summer, having shown his goal prowess in the Eliteserien with Lillestrøm.
He was the top scorer in the Norwegian top flight before he moved to Montpellier with the French outfit beating other suitors to his services.
Adams wasted no time in showing that the prolific form he showed in front of the goal while in Norway wasn't a flash in the pan, scoring two goals on his debut in the Ligue 1 and has gone on to score 5 more goals since then.
His electric start to life in the French topflight has attracted seven-time European champions AC Milan who have been reported to be interested in getting his signature.
"He's a good boy, intelligent, he adapts quickly. He wants to progress. He knows his role here. He knows that his work will be useful to the team," Utaka said to he L'Equipe via allezpaillade.
"If he is aware of it, that is the most important thing."
Utaka was part of the triumphant team that won Montpellier's first and only Ligue 1 title in the 2011/2012 season and Adams will be hoping that he can also leave an indelible mark in the history of the club before he moves on to pastures new.
