Flamengo Adidas Cup: Arsenal striker Obi-Martin named Man of the Match after brace against Flamengo
Published: December 12, 2023
Denmark U17 international of Nigerian descent Chido Obi-Martin picked up the Man of the Match award after his brace helped Arsenal U17s come from behind to secure a 2-1 win over Flamengo in their opening game of the Flamengo Adidas Cup in Brazil on Monday, December 11.
According to Arsenal youth team expert, Jeorge Bird, Obi-Martin equalized for Arsenal after the Brazilians had taken the lead.
The Danish-Nigerian wonderkid dusted himself down to convert a penalty after he had been fouled to level matters and slotted through the legs of the goalkeeper for the game-winning goal.
Apart from Obi-Martin, other players with a Nigerian background, including Zac Shuaib, Samuel Chinedu, Ifeoluwa Ibrahim and Josh Ogunnaike, featured in the game.
The aforementioned players will not be available for selection on Tuesday afternoon when Arsenal U19s take on PSV Eindhoven in a dead rubber UEFA Youth League tie.
Obi-Martin was involved in the last three matches played by Arsenal in the UEFA Youth League and made his Premier League 2 debut against Brighton & Hove in October 2023.
Last month, he attracted a lot of global attention after scoring ten goals for Arsenal U16s in a friendly against Liverpool.
