'I wonder what he's waiting for' – Ex-referee suggests Osimhen is holding out for move to PL
Published: July 04, 2025
Former Turkish referee Ahmet Çakar has weighed in on Victor Osimhen’s transfer situation, suggesting the Napoli striker is holding out for a dream move to the English Premier League or another top European league despite receiving lucrative offers from elsewhere.
The former African Footballer of the Year is up for sale this summer as he is not in the plans of manager Antonio Conte, despite having a contract with Napoli until June 2026.
Osimhen is drawing interest from Saudi giants Al-Hilal, but despite the eye-watering wages on offer, the striker is reportedly reluctant to make the switch to the Saudi Pro League at this stage of his career.
He was a huge success during a loan spell at Galatasaray last season, registering 45 goal involvements in 41 all-competition appearances.
The Turkish champions are eager to sign him on a permanent deal but Napoli's €75 million valuation is proving a major stumbling block.
Premier League heavyweights Manchester United, Arsenal, Liverpool and Chelsea have all been linked with Osimhen, but a move appears unlikely at this stage due to the forward's wage demands.
In quotes relayed by habersarikirmizi, Çakar told Sabah: "I wonder what Osimhen is waiting for. Even though he received a contract from Saudi Arabia that he would hardly earn again in his life, he didn't go there, at least not for now. I think he is chasing England or another big league."
Çakar also highlighted Galatasaray are still holding out hope of landing the Super Eagles star.
"Galatasaray is rightly thinking that maybe they will wait for Osimhen to give up and sign for Galatasaray again.
"After Osimhen is confirmed, they may turn to another goal scorer, whether positive or negative."
If no transfer materializes in the next eleven days, Osimhen is expected to report for pre-season training with Napoli.
