'I would take him at Man Utd' - 2006 England POTY predicts Solanke will get another big move
Published: December 12, 2023
2006 England Player of the Year and former Manchester United midfielder, Owen Hargreaves has predicted that Dominic Solanke will get another big move in the near future on the back of his outstanding performances for Bournemouth.
The 2017 Fifa U20 World Cup Golden Ball winner is a product of the Chelsea academy, making one appearance under Jose Mourinho before sealing a transfer to Liverpool in the summer of 2017.
Solanke found playing opportunities hard to come by at Liverpool with Roberto Firmino, Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane ahead of him in manager Jurgen Klopp's pecking order of forwards.
The Super Eagles-eligible player was the star of the show on Saturday as Bournemouth registered a historic 3-0 win over Manchester United, scoring the opening goal in the fifth minute and came close to the doubling the advantage before the interval.
Hargreaves reckons that Solanke could outperform Manchester United strikers Anthony Martial and Rasmus Hojlund who have scored one goal between them in the Premier League this term.
"I would take him at Manchester United, all day. At Chelsea, he was the prized academy player," Hargreaves was quoted as saying by talkSPORT.
"He went to Liverpool with that brilliant front three. That generational front three. He was never going to break into that.
“But I think he would have learnt and been mentored from [Roberto] Firmino, [Sadio] Mane and [Mohamed] Salah. We saw it with Wilf (Zaha) when he went to Manchester United. He wasn’t ready. He was too young.
"I think now Solanke, he will get another big move. Whether it’s Man United or not. But to get a kid that big and technically that good, who is smart enough, can run the channels and press. He will get another chance at the top, I am certain."
Solanke has not played for the Three Lions since making his debut off the bench in a friendly against Brazil in November 2017.
