Premier League Cup: Nigeria-eligible winger scores wonder goal for Chelsea in 2-1 win against Luton Town
Published: December 12, 2023
Nigeria-eligible winger Tyrique George was on the scoresheet for Chelsea's development squad in their 2-1 win over Luton Town in a Premier League Cup match played at Kenilworth Road on Tuesday night.
George created the first big chance of the game but Deivid Washington deprived him of an assist as his shot failed to hit the target.
The first half ended in a barren draw with the young Blues having to rely on the defence line to keep the home side at bay.
They finally opened the scoring in the 57th minute as Zain Silcott-Duberry's shot beat the experienced Tim Krul who was in goal for the home side
In the 75th minute, George doubled the away side with a stunning strike from outside the penalty area which could only be prevented by exceptional goalkeeping.
Luton Town almost turned the game on its head in the 82nd minute when Jack Batson turned the ball home from a corner kick to reduce the deficit but the away side held on to the lead.
George has now scored 4 goals in the Premier League Cup this season and has also found the net in the U18 version of the competition.
He has been in laudable form since the start of the season particularly in the U18 Premier League where he has 4 goals and two assists in 5 games.
