Tri-national Chelsea midfielder, whose dad represented Super Eagles at World Cup, scores for England youth

England U16s ended Republic of Ireland's five-game winning run after leaving it late to beat the Irish 2-0 in an international friendly staged at St. George’s Park National Football Centre, Staffordshire on Friday, with highly-rated Chelsea midfielder Landon Emenalo playing a key role in the win, allnigeriasoccer.com reports.
Landon is the son of former Chelsea technical director and retired Nigeria international Michael Emenalo, who shone for the Super Eagles at the 1994 World Cup as cover for the injured Benedict Iroha.
A tug of war has started over the international future of Landon Emenalo and the winner will not be determined until he plays a cap-tying game for any of the three countries he's eligible for.
Just last month, Emenalo was invited to U.S. U16 Men's Youth National Team for their first training camp of the 2023-2024 cycle for players born on or after January 1, 2008.
He is eligible to represent the Nigerian national teams through his father but the Nigeria Football Federation are lagging behind England and United States in the race for his services.
The 15-year-old represented England at U15 level before he was promoted to the U16s for the 2023-2024 season.
Against the Republic of Ireland U16s, Emenalo came off the bench to open the scoring for the Young Lions before Alejandro Gomes Rodriguez doubled the advantage.
The 2008-born player is eligible to sign a scholarship deal with Chelsea for the 2024-2025 season.
