Fabrizio Romano confirms Chelsea are not in advanced negotiations to sign Napoli striker Osimhen
Published: December 19, 2023
Italian transfer market expert Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that Premier League giants Chelsea are not in advanced negotiations to sign Napoli striker Victor Osimhen.
The 24-year-old's form for Napoli and the Nigeria national team has seen him linked with a transfer to the Premier League, with Chelsea the front runners for his services.
Osimhen has also been sensationally linked with a move to Arsenal but the Gunners might be priced out of a deal.
The 2015 Fifa U17 World Cup Golden Boot winner has seen his stock rise exponentially this season after being named the best player on the African continent and was also nominated for the Ballon d'Or, The Best Fifa Men's Player, Globe Soccer Award and IFFHS Best Player Award.
Writing on his Daily Breifing, Romano informed that Osimhen is on the list of players wanted by Chelsea but there is still no decision made or any advanced negotiation with the Nigerian or any other player.
It is almost impossible for Chelsea to sign Osimhen in the January transfer window as Napoli are still competing on three fronts - Serie A, Champions League and Coppa Italia.
A deal in January will be difficult to pull off, given that he could be with the Nigerian national team for up to six weeks at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.
The Napoli number 9 is on the brink of signing a new contract until 2026 with a release clause of around €130-140m.
