Arsenal goalkeeper Arthur Okonkwo back with loan club after minor surgery
Published: December 19, 2023
Nigerian goalkeeper Arthur Okonkwo is back with EFL League Two club Wrexham, where he is on loan for the 2023-2024 season.
The Hale End Academy product had returned to parent club Arsenal to undergo minor surgery after suffering a jaw injury during the first half of Wrexham's League Two meeting with Harrogate Town on Tuesday, November 28.
Okonwko was unavailable for selection in the last three games played by Wrexham due to the ailment.
The 22-year-old might be forced to wear a protective mask until he fully recovers from the injury.
Having spent last season on loan at Crewe Alexandra and Sturm Graz, he embarked on a third loan spell with Wrexham in the hours leading up to the close of the summer transfer window.
Okonkwo has racked up an impressive twenty-two clean sheets since making his professional debut in July 2022, including six in the colours of Wrexham.
Mark Howard provided cover for Okonkwo in the league meeting with Colchester United and the FA Cup clash versus Yeovil Town.
The Nigeria Football Federation are monitoring the progress of Okonkwo with a view to inviting him to the Super Eagles after the Africa Cup of Nations.
