Nigerian exports: Aribo opens season account; Edozie strikes; Arokodare brace; decisive goal for Sowunmi

Allnigeriasoccer.com's review of the Nigerian players that found the net for their respective foreign clubs in league matches on Boxing Day.

Super Eagles midfielder Joe Aribo netted his first goal of the campaign for Southampton in their 5-0 win over Swansea on matchday 24 of the English Championship played at the St.Mary's Stadium.

Aribo opened the scoring in the seventh minute when he received a pass from Adam Armstrong before firing a left-footed shot which found the bottom corner with the aid of a deflection.

Having struggled to get into the team at the start of the campaign, the 27-year-old has now forced his way into Russell Martin's starting lineup, having started the last 5 league games.

He has made 19 appearances across all competitions for Southampton so far this season.

Super Eagles-eligible winger Sam Edozie also got a goal in the encounter having netted the Saints' second of the afternoon.

The 20-year-old got his name on the scoreboard just after the restart with a clever backheel to net his third goal in four games.

With his goal today, the England youth international has taken his tally to 5 for the season in the English second-tier.

In the English League Two, Omar Sowunmi's goal for Sutton United was the only difference between them and AFC Wimbledon.

The 28-year-old came on at the start of the second half and got his goal in the 62nd minute with a diving header from Ryan Jackson's throw.

Elsewhere, Tolu Arokodare scored a brace for Genk in their 3-0 triumph over Alhassan Yusuf and Chidera Ejuke's  Antwerp on matchday 20 of the Jupiler Pro League.

The 23-year-old got his first goal in the 75th minute when he netted the ball into an empty net from Yira Sor's pass.

Two minutes later, he bagged another with a precise strike into the bottom corner, thereby registering his 6th of the campaign in the Belgian top division.
