Club-to-club agreement in place: Rangers to sign new striker to rival Dessers in January
Published: December 28, 2023Super Eagles striker Cyriel Dessers will get a new rival at Rangers in January when the transfer market opens for business.
According to Italian transfer market guru Fabrizio Romano, the Scottish Premiership giants and Wolverhampton Wanderers have reached a club-to-club agreement for the transfer of Portuguese attacker Fábio Silva.
Silva was also on the radar of Rangers' bitter rivals Celtic but has ended up snubbing the Hoops in favour of securing a loan move to the Light Blues for the remainder of the 2023-2024 season.
Phillipe Clement, coach of Rangers, and director of football Nils Koppen played a key role in Silva choosing to join Rangers - his third loan move in the space of a season and a half after spells at Anderlecht and PSV Eindhoven.
It has been a mixed season for Dessers since his transfer to Rangers from Cremonese in the summer as he has been in and out of the starting lineup due to a combination of rotation and loss of form.
The 29-year-old has started 20 from a possible thirty-two games in all competitions since the start of the season.
Former Eredivisie and Europa Conference League top scorer Dessers is beginning to show his qualities as a top striker with four goals in the last six games in the Scottish top-flight.
Dessers - the first player to score a goal for the national team under Portuguese football tactician Jose Peseiro - has been named in Nigeria's provisional squad for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.
