Southampton, Middlesbrough, Stoke and Preston showing interest in Nigeria-eligible wing-back
Published: December 29, 2023
Southampton, Middlesbrough, Stoke City and Preston North End are reportedly battling for the signature of Nigeria-eligible wing-back Matty Sorinola.
As reported by Teamtalk, the four Championship clubs are interested in the services of the 22-year-old full-back who recently became a free agent.
Sorinola became unattached as a result of the termination of his contract with Jupiler Pro League side Union Saint-Gilloise, the club he has represented since 2021.
He made 16 appearances across all competitions before he departed the Belgian-based side and could now be set for a return to England.
The Anglo-Nigerian defender began his career in the Fulham academy but it was with MK Dons that he made his first professional appearance.
He has also previously played for Swansea in the Championship having joined them on a season-long loan last term.
Southampton are interested in his signature due to his previous working relationship with Russell Martin who managed him at Swansea City and MK Dons.
Middlesbrough, Preston, and Stoke are also after him due to his experience playing in the Championship having made 29 appearances and registering five goal involvements for the Swans last campaign.
