AC Milan legend Galli urges Pioli to start Chukwueze alongside Pulisic and Leao in UEL clash v Roma
Published: April 15, 2024
AC Milan legend Filippo Galli, who was on the books of the Rossoneri for fifteen years, has urged manager Stefano Pioli to start Samuel Chukwueze alongside United States national team dazzler Christian Pulisic and Rafael Leão in Thursday's Europa League quarterfinal second leg clash against Roma at the Stadio Olimpico.
After struggling in his first six months as an AC Milan player, Chukwueze has been enjoying a new lease of life since March.
And he continued his impressive performance on Sunday as AC Milan and Sassuolo shared the spoils in a six-goal Serie A thriller, but was unlucky to see his two goals disallowed following a VAR review.
Chukwueze has been rewarded with game time by Pioli in recent weeks and has repaid the faith of the manager with some eye-catching displays.
Pioli faced criticism for delaying the introduction of the Nigerian during the first leg against Roma, especially as Pulisic and Leão were struggling in the game.
With an eye on the Europa League second leg tie, the Italian football tactician preferred Chukwueze over Pulisic in yesterday's draw versus Sassuolo, but the American came off the bench to replace the former Villarreal man with twenty five minutes remaining.
Speaking in the Milan TV studio, via PianetaMilan, Galli said: "Chukwueze starting with Roma could be an idea but this doesn't mean giving up either Leao or Pulisic and perhaps evaluating whether to move Loftus back to midfield: therefore Pulisic as an attacking midfielder.
"Then obviously Pioli is there every day and knows the dynamics, he will be able to make the right choices ."
Chukwueze has started in thirteen out of the forty-five matches played by AC Milan this season, while Pulisic has started in thirty-seven.
