'From his own country people' - Ighalo sad about backlash Osimhen faced after failed Chelsea, Al-Ahli moves
Published: September 01, 2024
Odion Ighalo has taken to his social media account to express displeasure towards the treatment that has been meted out to Victor Osimhen following his failure to secure a move to Chelsea or Al-Ahli on Friday.
The 25-year-old failed to agree terms with Chelsea as the Premier League giants reportedly offered him lower wages as compared to his current salary at Napoli which frustrated a transfer to west London.
He could have left for Al-Ahli, who were prepared to offer him a satisfactory salary and have a release clause inserted in his contract as demanded by him, but Napoli pulled the plug on the move by changing the terms of the deal.
These led to mixed reactions from Nigerian football fans, with some feeling sympathy for the 25-year-old while others called him unpleasant names due to his failure to either join the Blues or Al-Ahli.
Reacting on X, Ighalo expressed his sadness towards those who have chosen to hurl insults at the the reigning African Men's Player of the Year
“No human being is perfect and we have all made mistakes in life, but seeing comments about this young man from his own country people makes me really sad, without even knowing what happened, I spoke to him and I can feel the pain in his voice, the way he's been treated, this young man play with heart and pains for his country, Hmmm it's well, he will definitely be back stronger, we learn everyday in life, Happy New Month to y'all”
As it stands, Osimhen is not part of Napoli's plans for the season and cannot move to any of the top five European leagues due to the closure of the transfer window, and a move to the Saudi Pro-League has been deemed improbable.
Despite his situation, he has been called up for the Super Eagles squad for the forthcoming 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
