Hakeem Agboluaje: Brother of ex-Liverpool, Barcelona forward in Netherlands U18 provisional squad
Published: September 24, 2024
Hakeem Agboluaje has been included in Netherlands U18s provisional squad ahead of the October internationals against Ukraine and either Sweden or England.
If his name does not ring a bell, Hakeem is the younger brother of former Liverpool, Barcelona and Ajax Amsterdam forward Bobby Adekanye who now wears the colours of Eredivisie outfit Go Ahead Eagles.
Like his brother Bobby, Hakeem spent the formative years of his career with Alphia and Ajax, before joining Feyenoord youth team in January 2020 after a spell at Alphense Boys.
The similarity does not end there as both brothers are left-footed, though Hakeem can operate in defensive midfield, left-back and centre-back.
Hakeem captained Feyenoord U17s team last season and signed his first professional contract with the Dutch giants in May 2024, a deal that commits him to the Rotterdam-based outfit until the summer of 2027.
The 17-year-old is aiming to follow in the footsteps of Bobby, who has caps for Netherlands at U16, U17 and U20 levels.
Hakeem, who joined Feyenoord at the age of twelve, was an unused substitute against Atlético de Madrid in a UEFA Youth League clash in November 2023, making the matchday squad at the age of 16.
Netherlands U18s boss Adil Ramzi will name his final squad for the friendlies at Marbella Football Center on Friday, October 4.
Meanwhile, another player with an Ajax connection in the shape of Precious Ugwu has been named in Netherlands U19s provisional selection for next month's friendlies in Marbella against England and Portugal.
