Billed as a battle for the ages by Rwanda coach: 3 Wasps players Super Eagles must watch out for
Published: November 16, 2024
Rwanda's hopes of qualifying for the 2025 African Cup of Nations suffered a significant blow after a 1-0 home loss to Libya on Thursday.
With their backs against the wall, Rwanda coach Frank Spittler described the upcoming clash against Nigeria as a battle for the ages, urging his players to deliver a performance that will be talked about for generations.
Rwanda must now secure a win against Nigeria's Super Eagles on Monday at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo to keep their qualification dreams alive.
Additionally, they will be relying on Libya to beat Benin Republic in the other group match.
Coach Spittler's team faces an uphill task against the already-qualified Super Eagles, but they will be banking on the skills and experience of some key players to pull off an upset.
Monday's encounter promises to be an intense battle, with Rwanda fighting for their qualification lives.
The Super Eagles, however, will be looking to maintain their unbeaten record ahead of the 2025 AFCON.
Allnigeriasoccer.com takes a look at three Rwanda players to look out for in Monday's clash:
1. Fitina Omborenga
The 28-year-old Rayon Sports fullback boasts extensive experience, having made his national team debut in 2013.
Omborenga's defensive prowess and solidity will make him a challenging opponent for Nigeria's wingers. His experience will be crucial in containing the Super Eagles' attacking threats.
2. Djihad Bizimana
The 27-year-old is a vital cog in Rwanda's midfield, bringing valuable European experience as he plies his trade with Kryvbas Kryvyi in the Ukrainian Premier League.
He has featured in the qualifying stages of the UEFA Europa League as well as the UEFA Europa Conference League this season, making him a force to be reckoned with.
Bizimana will be instrumental in matching the Super Eagles' midfield pedigree.
3. Innocent Nshuti
The 26-year-old One Knoxville SC striker has an impressive track record, having helped A.P.R secure four Rwandan Premier League titles before moving to the USA.
Despite Nigeria's qualification, Nshuti's ability to spring surprises cannot be underestimated.
If he finds clear-cut scoring chances, he has the potential to trouble the Super Eagles.
