Race for Golden Boot: Leading scorer in Super Lig makes honest admission about Osimhen
Published: December 19, 2024
Leading scorer in the Turkish Super Lig, Krzysztof Piatek has admitted that Victor Osimhen is one of his challengers for Gol Kralı, translated as the Goal King, the top-scorer's award in the Turkish top-flight.
Piaktek has scored 10 goals in 15 games for Rams Başakşehir to sit atop of the top-scorers chart but he is not alone as Trabzonspor's Simon Banza has also scored the same number of goals but in lesser games.
Former Manchester City striker Edin Džeko and Ciro Immobile are closely behind the duo as both have scored nine goals apiece while Mame Thiam is beneath them in the chart, having scored eight goals for Eyüpspor.
Osimhen, Dusan Tadic and Rômulo are not far behind, as the trio have seven goals for Galatasaray, Fenerbahçe and Göztepe respectively.
Piatek has admitted that the Super Eagles striker is one of his challengers for the Golden Boot, though he has played down the fact that he is focused on winning the award.
In quotes relayed by Hurriyet, the Polish striker said: "To be honest, I'm not interested in the top scorer race right now. I don't have a goal to be top scorer right now. The most important thing for us is the Cercle Brugge match.
"The more I score, the more the team will win. The important thing is our club. If I'm in form, I'll score even more goals."
"When we get to the last five matches of the league, I can think more about the top scorer race. There are very good forwards in the Turkish League.
"Names that have played at European level, like Dzeko, Osimhen and Immobile... Really great players. There's a good top scorer race going on, but right now I'm only thinking about the Cercle Brugge match."
Osimhen has one Golden Boot to his name, having earned it in the 2022/2023 Serie A season, scoring 26 goals for Napoli.
His Galatasaray teammate Mauro Icardi was the top scorer in the Süper Lig last season.
