Dessers reveals what Rangers' interim manager told the players at half-time in win v Kilmarnock
Published: February 27, 2025
Cyriel Dessers has taken his tally for the season to twenty in all competitions following his second half brace during Rangers' comeback 4-2 win over Kilmarnock in a Scottish Premiership clash at Rugby Park on Wednesday evening.
Rangers were under pressure to deliver after their recent defeat to St. Mirren, a loss that led to the sacking of Belgian manager Philippe Clement.
The Light Blues found themselves trailing by two goals with Joe Wright and Brad Lyons getting on their scoresheet inside fourteen minutes, but the visitors had a strong last fifteen minutes in the first half and pulled one back through Vaclav Cerny.
In the second half, Dessers netted a brace to give Rangers a 3-2 lead before substitute Nedim Bajrami chipped in with a goal in the 85th minute.
Dessers revealed that Rangers interim boss Barry Ferguson told the players at half-time that they were still in the game.
Speaking to Rangers TV after the clash, the Super Eagles striker explained: "But if you see the way we reacted, with the mentality and character we showed, we can be happy with the win as this is a tough place to come to.
"At half-time the gaffer told us that we were still in the game through Vaclav’s goal.
"We fought back in the last 15 minutes of the first half and then we had to continue that, which we did. It was a very nice second half."
Dessers has been in fine form since the start of 2025, scoring crucial goals against Fraserburgh, Aberdeen, Dundee United, Manchester United and Kilmarnock.
Up next, Dessers and his teammates will face Motherwell in a Scottish Premiership match at Ibrox on Saturday.
