'Impossible is nothing' - GK Bankole says everyone expects Super Eagles to qualify for World Cup
Published: March 19, 2025
Super Eagles newbie, Kayode Bankole, has expressed his excitement after earning an invitation to the national team ahead of the crucial 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Rwanda and Zimbabwe.
Nigeria will first clash with the Amavubi at the Amahoro Stadium on Friday before facing the Warriors of Zimbabwe on Tuesday in Uyo.
Currently fifth in Group C, the Super Eagles need to secure victories in both games to revive their hopes of qualifying for the World Cup in the USA, Canada, and Mexico.
Speaking to NFF TV, the Remo Stars goalkeeper acknowledged the task ahead and expressed confidence in the team's ability to deliver.
"It has been great. It is a great feeling for me. Being in the midst of the big boys, the superstars, it is amazing," goalkeeper Bankole stated.
"When I was coming I came in with some of the NPFL coaches like coach Daniel, who is my coach, and coach Fidelis Illechukwu, so I am actually familiar with them. We got in together and it was a great feeling.
"Getting the call-up at this time I know it is something amazing for me and I know it is a big task ahead of us because everybody expects Nigeria to qualify for the World Cup.
"I know the impossible is nothing, with God on our side I know everything is possible. For like two seasons, I have been the one winning the best goalkeeper of the season.
"I didn't get the callup but I just believe I should keep doing what I know how to do. I know someday it will definitely come and I am glad it came at this point."
Nigeria has commenced preparations for the clash against Rwanda in Kigali. The team began training on Monday in the gym, with the technical staff putting the players through their paces.
Malian tactician Eric Chelle will be hoping the team shows character, secures victory, and revives their qualification hopes.
