Eric Chelle handed fitness boost as Slavia's Igoh Ogbu makes injury return ahead of Unity Cup
Published: April 19, 2025
Nigeria coach Eric Chelle has received a boost ahead of his squad announcement for next month's Unity Cup, with Slavia Prague central defender Igoh Ogbu making his return from injury on Saturday, April 19.
Igoh had not figured for the Czech giants since the conclusion of the March internationals due to a muscle-related injury.
Before the visit of FC Slovacko, the 25-year-old was unavailable for selection against Dukla Prague, Hradec Kralove and Karvina in the league, and against Sigma Olomouc in the MOL Cup.
With fourteen minutes left on the clock the Super Eagles hopeful came off the bench to replace Holeš with Slavia manager Jindřich Trpišovský tightening things up at the back as his side led 1-0 against Slovácko.
Mojmír Chytil sealed Slavia Prague's win by doubling their lead in the 85th minute, following Ondřej Zmrzlý’s first half opener.
Ogbu has been a key figure in Slavia's defensive setup this season, helping the club post seventeen clean sheets in all competitions.
The former Lillestrom man is surely on Eric Chelle's radar for the Unity Cup set to take place in London, after missing out on his debut during the 2026 World Cup qualifiers against Rwanda's Wasps and Zimbabwe's Warriors.
Igoh Ogbu is on the verge of winning his second major title since arriving in Europe, with Slavia Prague needing just two points from their remaining five matches to be crowned Chance Liga champions.
Despite having a contract with Slavia until 2026, several clubs are monitoring him ahead of the upcoming transfer window.
