Blow for Morocco: Young Atlas Lions coach confirms triple injury setback before Flying Eagles clash
Published: May 02, 2025
Morocco U-20 national team head coach, Mohamed Ouahbi, has confirmed that three of his players are nursing injuries following their 3-2 win over Kenya in the opening game of Group B at the ongoing 2025 Africa U20 Cup of Nations.
The win placed Morocco at the top of the group with three points and three goals, edging out Nigeria’s Flying Eagles, who also won but with a lesser goal tally.
Abdallah Boual experienced discomfort in his adductor muscle, Yassir Zabiri sustained a sprained ankle during the match against Kenya, while Reda Laalaoui arrived in camp already dealing with pain from a previous outing with FUS Rabat.
Speaking during his post-match press conference, as reported by Le Matin, Ouahbi said: "I cannot confirm the nature of the injuries at this time. We are awaiting the results of the medical tests tonight and will handle the situation with caution."
He stressed that no player would be risked against Nigeria unless declared fully fit.
"We have 26 players on the list and will not risk any player. Our goal is to prepare everyone in the best possible way without exposing them to danger."
Morocco will face Nigeria at the 30 June Stadium on Sunday, May 4, in a decisive fixture that could secure a place in the semifinals and qualification for the 2025 FIFA U-20 World Cup in Chile.
