Head coach of Nigeria’s U20 national team, Aliyu Zubairu, has hinted at the possibility of making tactical changes to his squad ahead of their crucial AFCON U20 Group B showdown against Morocco on Sunday.
The Flying Eagles began their campaign with a narrow 1-0 win over Tunisia on Thursday, a result that places them second in the group behind Morocco, who edged Kenya 3-2 in a thrilling encounter.
With both teams vying for early qualification, Zubairu suggested the possibility of making some changes to the team.
"Possibly, there might be one or two changes in the lineup,” the coach revealed while speaking ahead of the clash.
While the result against Tunisia was positive, the performance raised questions, prompting Zubairu to assure Nigerians of improvement against Tunisia.
"Definitely, there is going to be much improvement in our game tomorrow considering the fact that the last match was the first match of the tournament, and tension of unforeseen will always be there ”
Zubairu also shared a positive update on the team’s morale and fitness ahead of the game.
“The situation in camp is positive - considering the high spirit the boys are in.They are fully ready , we just come back from the last training before the match.,” he said. ”We thank God, there's no injury in the camp."
The coach also called on Nigerians to continue supporting the team: “Yes, we are still soliciting for prayers and support from Nigerians for all our games."
Victory against Morocco would guarantee Nigeria a place in the quarterfinals of the competition and a step closer to securing the ticket to the 2025 FIFA U20 World Cup in Chile.
