What Ademola Lookman said after inspiring Atalanta to 2025-26 Champions League qualification
Published: May 13, 2025
Atalanta forward Ademola Lookman expressed his delight after helping his side secure a crucial 2-1 victory over AS Roma on Monday, a result that confirmed their qualification for next season’s UEFA Champions League.
Lookman, who was initially a doubt for the clash due to a minor injury, opened the scoring in the 9th minute.
The Nigerian international received a pass from Charles De Ketelaere, turned sharply inside the box, and slotted a precise finish into the bottom corner to give the hosts an early lead.
While Bryan Cristante equalized for the visitors, Ibrahim Sulemana restored Atalanta’s lead in the second half to seal the victory.
The result ultimately confirmed Atalanta’s place in next season’s UEFA Champions League.
Speaking to DAZN after the match, Lookman shared his excitement about the team’s achievement and praised the collective effort of his teammates.
"We have qualified for the Champions League, it's a great feeling: we are very happy with these three points," Lookman said.
"I tried to be available to help my teammates, we are a strong team and I did everything I could to be there. Tonight is a great night to celebrate."
Lookman has been a standout performer for Atalanta this season, netting 20 goals and contributing seven assists in 39 appearances across all competitions.
His impressive displays have sparked speculation about his future, with reports linking him to several top European clubs.
As the summer transfer window approaches, Lookman will aim to maintain his fine form and finish the season on a high note.
