U20 Afcon: Key Flying Eagles midfielder Oliseh cleared to play against South Africa
Published: May 15, 2025
Allnigeriasoccer.com can exclusively report with certainty that key Flying Eagles midfielder Divine Oliseh has received the medical green light to play in Thursday's U20 Africa Cup of Nations semifinal against South Africa's Amajita at the Suez Canal Stadium in Ismailia.
Oliseh’s availability had been in doubt following an injury sustained late in the second half of Nigeria's quarterfinal victory over Senegal.
The Foster Academy starlet was substituted after a clash of heads with a Senegalese player, prompting concerns over a potential concussion and the implementation of protocol restrictions.
However, following medical evaluation, Oliseh resumed full training with the squad on Tuesday and participated in the team’s final session on Wednesday.
His return to full fitness puts him in strong contention to feature in Thursday's crucial encounter.
Nigeria U20s' team doctor, head coach Aliyu Zubairu, and Oliseh himself have all confirmed that the midfielder is in good physical condition and has shown no lingering effects from the incident.
Zubairu is likely to include the influential midfielder in the starting XI to face South Africa, barring any last-minute developments.
Oliseh being cleared for Thursday's showdown is a major boost for the Flying Eagles as his creativity and composure in midfield are expected to play a vital role in their bid to reach the final, where they would face either Morocco or Egypt.
Aside from the 2-2 draw with Kenya, the 17-year-old has started every match for Nigeria at the ongoing tournament in Egypt and continues to be a key figure for the seven-time African champions.
