U20 Afcon third-place playoff: Egypt coach explains why facing Flying Eagles will not be easy
Published: May 17, 2025
Osama Nabih, the coach of the Egyptian U-20 national team, has revealed the difficulty facing his team ahead of their third-place match against Nigeria.
Nabih, while speaking during the press conference, highlighted tiredness, fatigue, and injuries as the reasons why his side will find it difficult to compete against Nigeria.
Despite the difficulties, the 50-year-old expressed satisfaction with his team’s achievements and desire to win the bronze medal as consolation for the home fans.
"We achieved our goal in the tournament, which was to qualify for the World Cup in Chile, and we want to end the tournament on a high by winning the bronze medal," Nabih said, as quoted by almasryalyoum.
He also pointed out the factors that could make the match challenging for his team.
"Facing Nigeria will not be easy due to the fatigue, stress, and injuries that surround the team."
Egypt dropped to the third-place clash following the 1-0 loss to Morocco in the semifinal, while Nigeria also lost 1-0 to South Africa on Thursday.
Both nations are set to face off at the 30 June Stadium on Sunday, May 18, at 4 p.m., in the battle for the bronze medal at the ongoing U20 Afcon.
