Nigerian forwards deliver on Ligue 1's final day: Nantes' Simon, Nice's Moffi, Lille's Akpom score
Published: May 17, 2025
On the final day of the Ligue 1 season, Moses Simon was among the scorers as FC Nantes secured their top-flight status with a resounding 3-0 triumph over Montpellier.
Simon, who has been one of Nantes’ standout performers, opened the scoring in the 18th minute, calmly converting a penalty to give the home side an early lead and ease relegation fears.
With eleven minutes remaining in the game, Simon set up Matthis Abline, who scored the third goal.
The goal marked Simon’s eighth of the Ligue 1 campaign, adding to his ten assists in 32 league appearances — underlining his importance to the team throughout a challenging season.
Meanwhile, Chuba Akpom was on target as Lille claimed a 2-1 win over Reims.
The former Arsenal striker netted the winner from the penalty spot with just four minutes remaining, showcasing composure under pressure.
Since joining Lille on loan from Ajax, Akpom has now scored three goals in 14 league appearances this season.
At the Allianz Riviera, Terem Moffi marked his return to full fitness with a goal as OGC Nice thrashed Brest 6-0.
The Nigerian forward, who returned from a long-term injury in March, scored the fifth goal of the match in the 82nd minute, marking his only goal of the campaign.
