Three Nigerian attackers, including Arokodare score three of Racing Genk's goals in 4-1 win v Gent
Published: May 18, 2025
Three Nigerian forwards, including Tolu Arokodare, were on the scoresheet as Racing Genk cruised to a convincing 4-1 win over Gent at the Planet Group Arena on Sunday evening.
Former Flying Eagles winger Yira Collins Sor drew Genk level after Dante Vanzeir had put the hosts ahead just nine minutes into the match.
Racing Genk regained the lead in the first half thanks to an own goal by Mohamed Soumah, before Belgium U21 international forward of Nigerian descent Noah Adedeji-Sternberg extended their advantage with a third goal in the 70th minute.
Meanwhile, Tolu Arokodare capped off the rout with a goal two minutes from time, ending his goal drought in style.
The Nigerian international confidently slotted past goalkeeper Tom Vandenberghe to seal the win.
Tolu, who has been in scintillating form throughout the campaign, had gone three games without a goal for the visitors, having fired blanks against Union St Gilloise, Club Brugge, and Royal Antwerp.
His latest strike takes his season tally to 23 goals and seven assists in 44 appearances across all competitions.
His impressive performances have sparked uncertainty about his future, with several top clubs in the top five European leagues reportedly showing interest.
Arokodare will be aiming to finish the season as the Jupiler Pro League Golden Boot winner next weekend when Genk host Anderlecht.
