Russian-born striker who wants to play for Nigeria a transfer target for 2022-23 Polish champions
Published: May 24, 2025
German Onugkha could be on the move again this summer, with 2022-2023 Polish champions Rakow Czestochowa reportedly eyeing the FC Copenhagen-owned striker ahead of the upcoming transfer window.
According to Tomasz Włodarczyk of Meczyki.pl, Rakow—currently second in the Ekstraklasa going into the final round of the season—are keen to bolster their attacking options and have identified Onugkha as a top target.
Born in Moscow to a Russian mother and Nigerian father, the 28-year-old forward made headlines in September 2024 when he declined a call-up to the Russian national team ahead of a friendly against Vietnam, expressing his intention to pursue a future with Nigeria instead.
He revealed at the time that he planned to visit the Nigerian embassy in Copenhagen to begin the process of obtaining a Nigerian passport.
Onugkha joined FC Copenhagen in September 2024, but the move has not panned out as expected.
Limited playing time at the Danish capital club prompted a loan return to Vejle Boldklub in January, where he rediscovered his form with an impressive run of performances.
The Russian-Nigerian striker netted 13 goals and registered one assist in 20 league appearances for Vejle, earning the Danish Superliga Player of the Month award for March after scoring in four consecutive games.
With Onugkha's contract set to expire on June 30, 2026, this could be FC Copenhagen's last chance to cash in before he leaves for free.
