The little-known rule that saw Genk's Arokodare win Jupiler Pro League top scorer award

Super Eagles striker Tolu Arokodare has clinched the Jupiler Pro League Golden Boot under a little-known rule, despite finishing the season with the same number of goals as Adriano Bertaccini of STVV.

Arokodare enjoyed a stellar campaign with Racing Genk, netting 21 goals and providing six assists in 40 league appearances.

His contributions were crucial in Genk’s strong regular season performance, although the team faltered during the playoffs and ultimately failed to secure the league title.

Bertaccini also had an impressive season for Sint-Truiden, matching Arokodare's 21-goal tally and adding four assists in just 33 matches.

However, the tie in goals led to a rarely-invoked tiebreaker to determine the league's top scorer.

The Nigerian forward was recognized as the top goalscorer in the Belgian top-flight because he scored more goals away from home — a deciding factor when players are tied on goals.

Arokodare registered 11 of his goals on the road during the regular season, and added two more in away fixtures during the playoffs.

The 24-year-old found the net against OH Leuven, Beerschot VA (twice), Cercle Brugge, KAA Gent, Sint-Truiden, Royal Antwerp (twice), KVC Westerlo, Standard Liege and Charleroi in the regular season, before finding the net against Royal Antwerp and KAA Gent in the Championship playoffs.

In contrast, Bertaccini scored only seven away goals during the regular season and managed just one more in the relegation playoffs.
