Denmark squads announcement: Nigerian players from Man Utd, Newcastle included
Published: May 27, 2025
The Danish Football Association has unveiled its squad lists for upcoming U20 and U21 international fixtures this summer, with three players of Nigerian descent earning call-ups.
Manchester United striker Chido Obi has been selected for Denmark’s U20 side ahead of the prestigious Maurice Revello Tournament in France, where the Danes will compete in Group B against Mexico, Congo and Japan.
This marks Obi's maiden call-up at U20 level, ruling him out of contention for the 2025 UEFA European U19 Championship.
Obi, who previously spent time at Arsenal’s academy, has been a prolific scorer for Denmark across various youth levels, netting 18 goals in 32 appearances for the U16s, U17s, U18s, and U21s combined.
He is expected to join the national team following Manchester United's post-season friendlies against the ASEAN All-Stars and Hong Kong, China.
Elsewhere, Newcastle United forward William Osula and Sturm Graz midfielder Tochi Chukwuani have been named in the Denmark U21 squad by head coach Steffen Hojer for the upcoming UEFA European U21 Championship in Slovakia.
Denmark will face Finland, Ukraine and the Netherlands in the group stage.
Although all three players are currently provisionally cap-tied to Denmark through youth international appearances, they remain eligible to switch allegiance to Nigeria at senior level pending a change of association.
