'I'm not going to lie' - AC Milan winger Chukwueze admits last season was one his worst since turning pro
Published: June 02, 2025
AC Milan winger Samuel Chukwueze has admitted that the 2024/25 season ranks among the worst of his professional career, expressing deep disappointment over the team’s overall performance and his own limited impact.
"Last season is something we don’t really want to talk about. It was a bad season for the Milan fans and for everyone involved," Chukwueze told Victor Modo.
"Honestly, it’s one of the worst seasons of my professional career. I’m not going to lie – we didn’t win anything, I didn’t play much, even though I had the stats."
The Nigerian international joined AC Milan from Villarreal in the summer of 2023 amid high expectations, but he struggled to secure regular playing time under multiple coaches.
His adaptation to Serie A was further complicated by injuries and instability within the squad.
"We crashed out of the Champions League, lost in the cup, fell short in the league – everything just went wrong,” Chukwueze said.
"It was a tough season, with injuries, changing the coach, bringing in a new one. It was all upside down."
Despite these setbacks, Chukwueze praised the unwavering loyalty of Milan’s supporters, who continued to back the team throughout the season.
"The Milan fans are some of the best in the world. They truly deserve better. They travel with us in the rain, and even when it's freezing, you see them taking off their shirts, chanting and showing unwavering support," he said.
The 26-year-old, who was once one of La Liga’s most exciting young prospects, acknowledged the team’s failure to meet expectations but expressed hope that next season would offer a chance to make amends.
“Unfortunately, we let them down this season. I hope next season will be much better in Milan — winning the Scudetto, the Coppa Italia, and securing Champions League qualification to make up for everything,” he added.
AC Milan finished eighth in the 2024–25 Serie A campaign, missing out on qualification for any European competition.
