Tyrique George's breakout season: What Chelsea U21 coach said about teenage forward
Published: June 05, 2025
Chelsea U21 head coach Filipe Coelho has expressed his delight at the progress of young forward Tyrique George following a stellar breakout campaign with the senior team in the just-concluded 2024/2025 season.
George, who began the season with the development squad, made a significant impact after stepping up to the first team.
The 19-year-old contributed goals and assists that helped the Blues win the UEFA Conference League and secure qualification for next season’s UEFA Champions League.
In the Premier League, George registered one goal and one assist in eight appearances, while also notching a goal and two assists in twelve Conference League outings.
Reflecting on the youngster’s development, Coelho commended George’s seamless transition to senior football, describing his rise as a proud moment for the Academy.
“For us, that’s what it’s all about, preparing players to make the step up to senior football,” Coelho told the club’s official website.
“Seeing Josh and Tyrique earn their place with the men’s team was a proud moment for everyone involved."
Coelho described Tyrique George’s growth as a testament to the excellent work being done in the academy to develop players for the senior team.
“It was a clear sign that the Academy is doing its job in developing young talent for the next stage of their careers,” he said.
With the 2025/2026 season on the horizon, George will be aiming to build on his momentum and cement his place in the senior squad as one of Chelsea’s brightest prospects.
