Bassey beats costliest Nigerian signed by a British club to Fulham Player of the Season
Published: June 13, 2025
Super Eagles central defender Calvin Bassey has been named Fulham's Player of the Season for 2024-2025, the official website of the Cottagers informed on Friday.
Bassey, who placed second in his first season at Craven Cottage, has improved on that performance by securing top spot in this year's final voting.
The Leicester City academy product claimed the Fulham Player of the Year award after securing 39.6 percent of the votes, edging out teammate Alex Iwobi, the most expensive Nigerian ever signed by a British club, who finished with 21.5 percent.
Completing the top five are Antonee Robinson (19.9%), Bernd Leno (10.9%) and Saša Lukić (8.1%).
Bassey featured in 37 games across all competitions over the course of the 2024-25 season, registering two goals, while logging 3,284 minutes.
He made crucial contributions during the season, notably netting the winner in a Premier League clash against Nottingham Forest in February, before opening the scoring against Manchester United in the FA Cup the following month.
Reacting to being named Fulham's Player of the Season, Bassey said: "Thank you guys for voting me Player of the Season. I want to thank God – without God I wouldn’t be where I am.
"Big up all my team, guys who are not necessarily at the Club, who have been helping me.
"Obviously, thanks to the coaching staff and the Manager for trusting me and believing in me. Hopefully we can do amazing things next season, so thank you for your support guys."
Bassey joined Fulham from Ajax Amsterdam in the summer of 2023, signing a four-year deal until June 30, 2027.
