Injured but determined: Akor Adams cuts holiday short to boost fitness ahead of Sevilla pre-season
Published: June 14, 2025
Nigerian striker Akor Adams has taken a break from his offseason vacation to focus on recovering from injury at Sevilla’s José Ramón Cisneros sports complex, signaling his determination to earn a place under Sevilla’s incoming management, according to Seville based sports newspaper Estadio Deportivo.
The 25-year-old forward, who joined Sevilla from Montpellier in the winter transfer window, has been sidelined by two muscle injuries that curtailed his ability to make an impact during the latter part of the 2024/25 season.
Most recently, he suffered a strain in the rectus femoris muscle of his right thigh.
Despite being on holiday in Tanzania, Adams returned to Seville for medical evaluations and physical therapy, working closely with the club’s rehabilitation staff.
He shared his recovery progress on social media, emphasizing his commitment to being fully fit for the start of preseason training in July.
Signed by former sporting director Víctor Orta, Adams is now eager to convince the club’s new leadership.
Antonio Cordón is set to take over as sporting director, with Argentine Matías Almeyda tipped to become Sevilla’s next manager.
Adams is keen to prove his worth ahead of what promises to be a competitive preseason.
The Nigerian will face competition from Isaac Romero and returning loanees Kelechi Iheanacho and Rafa Mir.
Iheanacho has just finished his loan at Middlesbrough, while Mir’s temporary stint with Valencia has also concluded.
Both strikers are nearing the end of their contracts.
Adams’ early return to Seville and proactive rehabilitation reflect his ambition to play a central role in Sevilla’s 2025/26 campaign, especially with the club hoping to improve on a disappointing domestic finish and return to European contention.
