Roma interested in Chelsea academy graduate who is open to playing for Nigeria

AS Roma are closely monitoring the situation of Chelsea academy graduate Faustino Anjorin, who could be on the move this summer following Empoli’s relegation to Serie B.

According to Forza Roma, the Giallorossi are weighing up a bid for the 23-year-old, who is currently valued at around €10 million.

To help facilitate the deal, Roma are reportedly open to including two returning loanees—Luigi Cherubini and Jan Oliveras—as part of a potential swap package.

Chelsea, Anjorin’s former club, stand to benefit from any deal after inserting a sell-on clause into the agreement that saw the midfielder join Empoli in August 2024.

Despite being under contract with the Azzurri until June 2027, Anjorin's future is uncertain.

He played a crucial role during the season run-in—netting two goals in five matches after recovering from a thigh injury—but his efforts weren’t enough to prevent Empoli from slipping into the second tier.

Across the 2024–25 campaign, the versatile midfielder made 22 appearances in Serie A, contributing five goal involvements.

A former England youth international, Anjorin remains eligible to represent Nigeria and is understood to be open to switching allegiance.

He is on the radar of Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle ahead of the resumption of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.

Before his permanent move to Italy, Anjorin spent time on loan at Lokomotiv Moscow, Huddersfield Town and Portsmouth while on the books at Chelsea.
