Three Nigerians included in Genk's pre-season training squad, Arokodare absent for now
Published: June 17, 2025
Racing Genk will begin their pre-season preparations on Thursday, June 19, with three Nigerian players expected to report for duty with the first-team squad.
The Belgian Pro League side will use the opening phase of training to assess returning players ahead of the 2025–26 campaign.
According to Genk's official website, the first players will report for their medical examinations, and a day later, on Friday 20 June at 16:00, head coach Thorsten Fink will give the official starting signal for the preparation.
Noah Adedeji-Sternberg, Mujaid Sadick and Yira Sor have been included in the pre-season training squad.
Golden Boot winner for the 2024-2025 campaign, Tolu Arokodare is not part of the squad at the moment, but he could still join later during pre-season.
The striker has been granted an extended vacation due to international commitments with the Super Eagles in May and June.
Arokodare made back-to-back substitute appearances for the Super Eagles during their recent international friendlies, continuing his push for a regular role in the national team.
The 24-year-old featured off the bench in Nigeria's shootout win over Jamaica in the Unity Cup on May 31, before coming on six days later to score the equaliser in a 1-1 draw against Russia.
Arokodare's future at Genk remains uncertain, with the striker strongly linked with a move away from the Limburg outfit following a standout season.
He enjoyed an exceptional 2024–25 campaign, registering 30 goal involvements—23 goals and 7 assists—which has attracted interest from several clubs across Europe.
Genk's first pre-season game is against neighbors Eendracht Termien on Saturday, June 28.
