Italian transfer expert Luca Marchetti has shed light on the transfer rumours linking Ademola Lookman to Napoli, clarifying that there have been no discussions between the two clubs regarding a potential move.
Lookman has been in outstanding form since joining Atalanta in the summer of 2022, with 52 goals and 25 assists in 118 appearances across all competitions.
His standout performance came in the UEFA Europa League final on May 22, 2024, when he netted a sensational hat-trick to secure Atalanta’s historic first European trophy—a 3-0 win over Bayern Leverkusen—becoming the first player since Pierino Prati in 1969 to score a hat-trick in a one-legged European final.
It was speculated in recent weeks that Napoli are eyeing the 27-year-old as part of a summer overhaul to bolster their attacking options, with Atalanta reportedly valuing the player at around €60 million.
However, speaking to Radio Marte, as reported by Napoli Magazine, Marchetti—who reports for Sky Sport—denied discussions between Napoli and Atalanta for the possible transfer of the Nigerian striker.
Instead, Luca revealed that the Serie A champions are exploring a potential move for Manchester United forward Jadon Sancho.
"For Lookman, I am not aware of any contact with Atalanta," Marchetti stated, as reported by Napoli Magazine.
"Instead, new contacts are expected today with Ndoye. The other name that Napoli is working on is Sancho, whose contract with Manchester expires in a year plus a one-year option that can be unilaterally exercised by the club."
As the summer transfer window progresses, Atalanta will be eager to retain the Nigerian forward as they prepare to compete on multiple fronts in the upcoming season.
