Done deal: Hull City sign Super Eagles CB with games in all top five levels of English football
Published: June 19, 2025
Through a statement on the official website, Championship club Hull City have announced the signing of Nigeria international Semi Ajayi.
Ajayi will complete his move to the Tigers on July 1, after the expiration of his contract with West Brom.
The former Arsenal youth team skipper has agreed a two-year deal, with a club option for the 2027-2028 season.
Hull City have secured the services of a defender with Championship experience, with 200 games under his belt in the division.
A product of Charlton Athletic's academy, Ajayi boasts the rare distinction of having played in all five tiers of English football - Premier League, Championship, League One, League Two and National League.
Earlier in his career, he turned out for Crewe Alexandra, AFC Wimbledon, and Dartford, gaining valuable experience across the divisions.
On the international stage, Ajayi was a key member of the Super Eagles squad to the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, where he went the distance in seven games, helping the team managed by Jose Peseiro pick up a silver medal.
In his first words after the deal was confirmed, Ajayi said: "I’m really excited. I spoke to the sporting director (Jared Dublin) and head of recruitment (Martin Hodge), and they sold me on the vision of the club and the plans for this season.
"The club wants to challenge at the top end of the league and that’s where I see myself challenging. When I heard the vision, I couldn’t wait to get involved in the project.
“I feel I can bring Championship know-how, experience and leadership. I am comfortable on the ball, good in the air and my pace is an asset Jared and Martin spoke highly of.”
In addition to the aforementioned sides, Ajayi has also represented Rotherham United and Cardiff City.
