Southampton and Trabzonspor reach agreement over transfer of Super Eagles striker for N14b fee
Published: June 19, 2025
Turkish giants Trabzonspor have reportedly reached an agreement with English side Southampton for the permanent signing of Nigerian striker Paul Onuachu during the summer transfer window.
Onuachu, who joined Southampton from Belgian club Genk in January 2023, endured a tough start to life in England but rediscovered his form while on loan at Trabzonspor during the 2023/2024 season.
The 6ft 7in forward was in scintillating form for the Turkish outfit, netting 17 goals and providing four assists in 25 appearances across all competitions.
Despite his impressive showing, Trabzonspor were unable to secure a permanent deal for the 31-year-old last summer due to Southampton's €10 million valuation — a fee the Turkish club found difficult to meet.
Consequently, Onuachu returned to St Mary’s for the 2024/2025 season.
However, following their relegation from the Premier League at the end of the season, Southampton have been forced to reassess their position, opening the door for renewed transfer negotiations.
Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano reports that both clubs have now agreed on a deal in the region of €8 million (approximately fourteen billion naira), bringing Trabzonspor a step closer to securing the Nigerian international on a permanent basis.
With the transfer fee agreed, Trabzonspor are now working to finalize personal terms with Onuachu.
Once terms are settled, the striker is expected to make a permanent return to the club where he rediscovered his scoring touch.
Onuachu will be keen to pick up where he left off as he prepares for the upcoming campaign in familiar territory, with hopes of continuing his strong form and reigniting his international prospects with the Super Eagles.
