Genk coach responds to reports linking Arokodare with Bayern, Borussia Dortmund and Stuttgart
Published: June 21, 2025
Genk head coach Thorsten Fink has played down speculation surrounding the potential departure of striker Tolu Arokodare, who has reportedly drawn serious interest from several top European clubs.
Arokodare, who enjoyed an impressive campaign last season, is reportedly on the radar of Bundesliga heavyweights Bayern Munich, Borussia Dortmund, and VfB Stuttgart.
His performances have not gone unnoticed, and with the transfer window open, rumours about a move abroad are intensifying.
Speaking to TV Limburg, Fink offered a calm response to the swirling reports.
"As long as nothing happens, it's just rumours," he said with a smile, indicating that the club has not yet received a formal offer.
Despite Fink’s composed stance, Genk appears to be preparing for Arokodare’s possible departure.
The club has reportedly reached a mutual understanding with the Nigerian striker regarding a potential move, should the right opportunity arise.
The player is said to be keen on testing himself in a top European league, and Genk is ready to negotiate if a suitable offer is tabled.
Genk chairman Peter Croonen previously indicated that any transfer fee would need to exceed the €18 million received from Southampton for Paul Onuachu in 2023.
With Arokodare’s stock rising, the club is believed to be targeting a fee in excess of €20 million.
Meanwhile, Genk’s sporting director Dimitri De Condé is actively working on both reinforcements and possible exits.
The club has already secured the signing of Daan Heymans, and further additions are expected, especially if Arokodare leaves in the coming weeks.
Genk resumed pre-season training on Friday, though several international players, including Arokodare, were absent.
As transfer speculation continues, the next few weeks promise to be pivotal for both the player and the club.
