Burnley interested in Super Eagles star but Arsenal's move for Brentford captain could block exit
Published: June 26, 2025
Newly promoted Premier League side Burnley are reportedly among several clubs monitoring Nigerian midfielder Frank Onyeka, but a potential move may be delayed due to Brentford’s ongoing negotiations with Arsenal over Christian Nørgaard.
Onyeka, who spent the 2024/2025 season on loan at Bundesliga outfit Augsburg, impressed with his energetic displays in midfield.
The Super Eagles star made 34 appearances, contributing two assists and gaining plaudits for his ability to cover ground, break up play, and retain possession.
His standout performances have attracted interest across Europe, with Serie A’s Fiorentina, Bundesliga side Stuttgart, and Burnley all tracking the 27-year-old ahead of the 2025/2026 campaign.
However, the potential sale of Brentford captain Christian Nørgaard to Arsenal could complicate Onyeka’s future.
According to journalist Ben Jacobs, Brentford may hesitate to sanction Onyeka’s departure due to Nørgaard’s exit to the Emirate stadium.
Nørgaard is said to be close to sealing a move to the Emirates in a deal worth around €11 million plus add-ons.
He is seen as a direct replacement for Ghanaian midfielder Thomas Partey, who is set to leave Arsenal on a free transfer.
With Brentford potentially losing their midfield anchor, the club may choose to retain Onyeka to maintain depth in the middle of the park unless a suitable replacement is brought in.
As the summer transfer window heats up, Onyeka will be looking to resolve his future quickly, with hopes of continuing his development at a club where he can enjoy regular first-team football.
