'Meaningless requests from his father' – Besiktas explain why deal for Super Eagles RB is off
Published: June 28, 2025
Beşiktaş Club President Serdal Adal has announced that the club has withdrawn transfer talks with Nigerian footballer Bright Osayi-Samuel after 'meaningless requests' from his father.
"We have decided to stop the transfer due to the last-minute change of meaningless requests of Osayi-Samuel's father," he was quoted as saying by Turkish outlet Nefes.
Bright Osayi-Samuel had agreed a three-year deal with Turkish Super Lig club Besiktas to move across Istanbul from Fenerbahce.
The Nigerian right-back was due to arrive in Istanbul later tonight for his pre-transfer medical examination to seal the agreement.
Besiktas have not totally discarded the idea of signing the former Queens Park Rangers player and would be ready to proceed with the original terms of the deal.
"We are waiting for news from the other side. If he complies with the conditions we discussed before, he will come, otherwise, our alternatives are ready," Adal added.
However, he is not the only target for the club, and they have threatened to move on to other targets should they fail to complete Osayi-Samuel's signing.
The 27-year-old made 39 appearances for Fenerbahce last season.
He is currently available as a free agent as his contract with the Yellow Canaries was not renewed.
