'We need to get him' – Mikel names the Benfica player Chelsea should sign this summer

Former Super Eagles captain and Chelsea legend John Obi Mikel has thrown his support behind Benfica goalkeeper Anatoliy Trubin, urging Chelsea to consider signing him this summer despite a poor showing in their Fifa Club World Cup clash.

Chelsea cruised to a 4-1 victory over Benfica in the tournament, securing their place in the quarterfinals.

However, Trubin came under heavy criticism after being directly responsible for the Blues' first two goals.

His errors proved costly, leading to Reece James' opening goal and a second from Christopher Nkunku.

Speaking during his post-match analysis on DAZN, Mikel was quick to look beyond the night’s mishaps.

"Again another mistake from Trubin," Mikel said during post-match analysis.

"We talked about him before the game. He has had a brilliant tournament so far. Today's one of those days, he just needed to forget it."

Despite the errors, Mikel insisted Chelsea should move for the Ukrainian shot-stopper ahead of the 2025/26 season.

"I still think we (Chelsea) need to get Trubin," he emphasized.

The match also saw another drama, with Benfica's Gianluca Prestianni receiving a red card following a clumsy challenge on Chelsea’s Malo Gusto in the 92nd minute.

The Argentine forward had already been booked earlier in the game.

"There is no question about it. Clumsy tackle, that's definitely a second yellow card," Mikel said on the decision
