'My father called without telling me' - Osayi-Samuel pleads for second chance with Besiktas
Published: July 01, 2025
Super Eagles defender Bright Osayi-Samuel has pleaded for a second chance to join Turkish giants Beşiktaş after his transfer collapsed due to an unexpected financial demand reportedly made by his father.
Osayi-Samuel, who is a free agent, was on the verge of completing a move to Beşiktaş, with a three-year deal worth €1.9 million per season already agreed in principle.
However, the deal broke down after the player's father, Nelson Osayi, allegedly contacted the club directly and requested an additional €300,000 annually.
The request is said to have angered Beşiktaş president Serdal Adalı, who immediately pulled the plug on the transfer.
Despite the breakdown, Osayi-Samuel is now appealing to the club for a second chance, claiming he was unaware of his father’s interference.
According to journalist Fatih Doğan, as reported by Turkish outlet Sporx, the Nigerian international reached out to the club, saying: "My father called without telling me and cancelled the transfer, I have no idea what happened. Let’s talk again."
However, Beşiktaş chairman Adalı reportedly rejected the plea, standing firm on his earlier decision to terminate all negotiations with the player.
The Istanbul club has since shifted its attention to other targets.
Reports suggest Beşiktaş are now monitoring Southampton’s Kyle Walker-Peters and Wolverhampton Wanderers’ Nelson Semedo as potential alternatives to bolster their defense ahead of the new season.
Meanwhile, Osayi-Samuel, whose contract with Fenerbahçe has ended, has also been linked with a move back to England, with newly promoted Championship side Birmingham City showing interest.
With the summer transfer window gaining momentum, the 27-year-old defender now faces a critical period as he looks to secure his next move and continue his professional career.
