'I would go and get Lookman' – Ex-Real Madrid forward advises Napoli to sign African POTY
Published: July 06, 2025
Former Real Madrid forward Antonio Cassano has urged Napoli to sign Atalanta star Ademola Lookman, insisting the Nigeria international would suit Antonio Conte's system perfectly.
Napoli are reportedly in the market for a new winger to replace Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, who made a high-profile move to European champions Paris Saint-Germain during the January transfer window.
Although Lookman continues to be linked with a move to Napoli, the Serie A champions have yet to firm up their interest by submitting an official bid to Atalanta.
The former Everton man enjoyed a breakout 2023-2024 season, scoring a historic hat-trick in the Europa League final, which saw him crowned African Footballer of the Year.
Last season, Ademola Lookman netted 15 goals and registered five assists in Serie A, bringing his total goal contributions to 60 (39 goals, 21 assists) in 93 appearances since joining Atalanta from RB Leipzig.
Cassano advised Napoli to sign the Super Eagles star, who already understands the demands of the Italian top-flight and has the qualities to thrive under Conte.
Speaking on Twitch with Viva El Futbol, via Tifo Juventus, Cassano said: "I would go and get Lookman , it would be a sensational purchase.
"He runs, scores, makes assists, and is trained by a great player like Gian Piero Gasperini."
Lookman, who remains under contract with Atalanta until June 30, 2027, has recently been linked with a move to Arsenal.
However, the Premier League giants are prioritizing a move for Chelsea's Noni Madueke, who, at 23, is four years younger than Lookman.
