'Atletico Madrid are very interested' – Transfer expert reveals Lookman not keen on PL return
Published: July 08, 2025
Atalanta have reportedly placed a €50 million valuation on their star forward, Ademola Lookman, the reigning African Footballer of the Year, as interest from Atletico Madrid intensifies.
The Nigerian international has established himself as one of Serie A’s most sought-after players after an outstanding season in Bergamo, drawing attention from top clubs across Europe.
According to transfer market expert Matteo Moretto, speaking on Fabrizio Romano’s YouTube channel and cited by Calcio Atalanta, the Italian club are determined to stick to their asking price.
"Let’s talk now about Atalanta and in particular Ademola Lookman, the protagonist of an excellent season," Moretto said.
"I’ll give you two indications: the first concerns the price, with Atalanta valuing Lookman at around 50 million euros.
"It is therefore a significant figure and it will be interesting to see who will be willing to invest this sum for the offensive winger,” Moretto explained.
Lookman’s performances in both Serie A and European competitions have underlined his importance to Atalanta’s attack, making them reluctant to sell unless they receive a substantial offer.
Atletico Madrid have emerged as the leading contenders for the Nigerian winger, with discussions between the Serie An and La Liga clubs resuming following the recent Ruggeri deal.
"Atletico Madrid is very interested and continues to carefully monitor the situation, considering that, after the Ruggeri operation, contacts between the two clubs have resumed and interesting scenarios could open up," Moretto revealed.
Diego Simeone’s side see Lookman as a perfect fit for their forward line thanks to his pace, creativity, and versatility across attacking positions.
Despite speculation linking Lookman with a return to the Premier League, where he previously played for Everton, Fulham, and Leicester City, such a move seems unlikely.
"Furthermore, the player would not like to return to the Premier League, but a lot will depend on the offers that arrive,” Moretto added.
Lookman’s preference to continue in a top European league outside England may give Atletico Madrid a negotiating advantage.
